Charanga Tropical

Founded in 2006, Charanga Tropical performs as a ‘charanga,’ an instrumentation that dates back to the roots of Cuban music. The sound combines violins, flute, vocals, and full Latin rhythm section. The group is the only American charanga ever to perform at Cuba’s International Danzón Festival. While in Havana in 2015 the band recorded its CD ‘In Cuba’ at the same legendary studios where the Buena Vista Social Club album was made. Charanga Tropical has toured widely, performing at venues such as Winnipeg Jazz Festival and Chicago’s Grant Park. More recently the band has backed up Cuban singer and Grammy winner Mayito Rivera.
